How to find a PhD supervisor

How to find a PhD supervisor

The doctoral school in which you enrol depends on your supervisor: each HDR researcher is affiliated to only one doctoral school.

To find a supervisor, we advise you to look at the researchers' professional pages, contact them if their research interests you and corresponds to your training, and ask them which ED they belong to.

We also strongly encourage all applicants to get in touch with the PhD students and postdocs working in the team and talk to them. In addition to the scientific excellence of the team, as evidenced by articles published in international peer-reviewed journals ('PRJ'), the following should be taken into account
- the working atmosphere in the team and in the laboratory
- the number of PhD and post-doctoral students in the team and laboratory;
- Scientific activities (seminars, journal clubs, etc.);
- Do PhD students attend conferences and how often (once a year? once during their thesis?);
- Have the most recent PhD students published first-authored PRJs?
This last point is particularly important: if several PhD students have not published, this may be a red flag.
